Dr Michael Poon

Michael is a neurosurgery resident in Bristol with an academic interest in clinical epidemiology and data science. He completed his medical degree and a BMedSci in Neurosciences at the University of Edinburgh, followed by an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

During his initial neurosurgery training in Edinburgh, he completed a PhD supported by Cancer Research UK focusing on population-based linked big data, medical biostatistics, and collaborative artificial intelligence to advance personalised neuro-oncology care.

Michael is enthusiastic about collaborative research. He has led the British Neurosurgical Trainee Research Collaborative and contributed to multicentre collaborative projects mapping global neuro-oncology surgical outcomes and healthcare delivery. He regularly supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research students and engages with teaching at the medical school. He aims to promote shared learning, interest, and innovation in his role at BNOS.
