In recognition that the care and treatment of brain tumour patients is a challenge, not only in the UK, but also in the rest of the world, since 2024 we have been inviting health care professionals working in low/middle income countries to apply for bursaries to attend the BNOS conference. We also facilitate connections between successful applicants and host institutions so that recipients can spend time (approximately 2 weeks) after the conference with clinical teams in the UK. We believe this collaboration can benefit all partners.
The bursary is provided to cover visas, travel, conference registration, accommodation and subsistence during the UK placement.
A short presentation slot is also available on the opening day of the conference for the successful applicants to talk about the challenges they face and address possible solutions.
Successful applicants are expected to complete a report after the conference on the impact of the bursary to their practice.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be citizens of low-income, lower-middle income or upper-middle income countries as defined by the World Bank. To see eligible countries visit the World Bank data page.
- Be a medical professional with a focus in neuro-oncology
- Not have previously received the bursary for a past BNOS meeting
- Not be able to attend without the benefit of the bursary
- Have no visa issues to enter the UK. BNOS cannot provide visa assistance other than providing a letter of invitation.
Applications for bursaries to attend the 2027 conference will open in December.
