SUMMARY:Prehabilitation: Principles & Practice for Supporting Patients to Get Fit for Surgery/Treatment
DESCRIPTION:This conference focuses on Prehabilitation – Principles and Practice\, and will provide a practical guide to delivering an effective prehabilitation programme\, ensuring patients are fit and optimised for surgery/treatment. This is even more important in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns which have had a negative effect on many individual’s health and fitness levels\, and currently high waiting lists could be used as preparation time to ensure the best outcomes. \nThe conference will look at preoperative/pre treatment optimisation of patients fitness and wellbeing through exercise\, nutrition and psychological support.

SUMMARY:Queen Square Multidisciplinary Neuro-oncology Teaching Course
DESCRIPTION:The need for multidisciplinary working in neuro-oncology is well established but a common theme that will be addressed is the need for better understanding between core specialties within the Neuro-oncology Multidisciplinary Team. \nTo address this\, this course has been designed for Trainees\, Consultants and Clinical Nurse Specialists in the core specialities of neuro-oncology – Neurology\, Neurosurgery\, Clinical Oncology\, Neuroradiology\, Neuropathology and Palliative Care. The anticipated audience are medically qualified professionals working within the neuro-oncology MDT. Other professionals e.g. CNSs and AHPs are welcome but may find some of the content quite technical. \nThe Aims of the Course are: \n\nTo introduce the basic principles and recent advances in Neuro-oncological treatments\nTo develop a standardised approach to the diagnosis and classification of brain and spinal tumours using modern imaging\, histopathology and molecular genetic techniques.\nTo develop an understanding of the multidisciplinary management of patients with primary and metastatic brain and spine tumours\, and other rarer tumours of the nervous system.\nTo develop an understanding of the symptomatic management of the brain tumour patient with neurological symptoms\, including palliative and end-of-life care and treatment related toxicity.\nTo provide an opportunity for multidisciplinary discussion of common and rare cases\n\nThe course will be divided into two days 27 September 2023 and 6 March 2024 and will be delivered by the consultant staff of the UCLH/UCL/National Hospital Neuro-oncology multidisciplinary team.

SUMMARY:Tackling drug resistance in cancer: an interdisciplinary workshop
DESCRIPTION:Cancer Research UK are partnering with Physics of Life and the Rosetrees Trust to deliver a one-day workshop aiming to tackle drug resistance in cancer through interdisciplinary collaboration. \nLearning objectives  \nThe interdisciplinary programme seeks to engage attendees in developing new ideas and collaborations to address the problem of resistance to cancer therapies with clinicians and researchers working across different fields\, including physical sciences\, engineering\, mathematics\, and cancer. \nWe aim to facilitate discussions exploring the mechanisms driving the emergence of tumour resistance\, approaches for monitoring drug resistance\, and development of novel therapies which reduce\, or circumvent\, resistance.  The event will also provide a forum for the exchange and generation of ideas on how to effectively translate promising new approaches into the clinic. \nAudience \nThis event is open to clinicians and researchers at all career stages\, who are working in physical sciences\, maths\, cancer\, or other relevant disciplines in biology (such as developmental biologists) as well as those already working at the interface between these disciplines. \nAttendees will have opportunities throughout the day to network with peers and join in collaborative discussions as part of the programme. \nConference scientific committee  \n\nTrevor Graham\, Centre for Evolution and Cancer\, The Institute of Cancer Research\nSusan Short\, School of Medicine\, University of Leeds and Clinical Oncology\, St. James’ University Hospital\nPeter Weightman\, Department of Physics\, University of Liverpool\nAlexis Barr\, Institute of Clinical Sciences\, Imperial College London\nClaus Jorgensen\, Systems Oncology\, Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute\nStephen Smye\, School of Medicine\, University of Leeds
