DESCRIPTION:This 2-day course on Functional Neurosurgery covers both Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and stereotactic lesioning. All aspects of anatomy\, patient selection\, targeting\, surgery\, programming\, follow up and troubleshooting will be presented by experts and pioneers in the field. Afternoon workshops include 3-D anatomy simulation of basal ganglia\, hands-on courses on surgery simulation\, target and trajectory planning\, and basic programming. Depending on their main field of interest\, participants can choose between more advanced planning\, DBS programming\, or patient selection. We will also cover the basics on radiofrequency (RF) ablation and High Focused Ultrasound\, including simulation of RF surgery.

DESCRIPTION:ICIS SGCR-WIRES 2024. 23rd International Cancer Imaging Society Meeting jointly presented with the Singapore Radiological Society and the College of Radiologists\, Singapore. \nICIS is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 1998 by two eminent radiologists; Professor Dame Janet Husband and Professor Rodney Reznek from the United Kingdom. The Society aims to advance the subspecialty of cancer imaging in the multidisciplinary management of cancer\, promote education and foster research in this growing field. Since its inception\, the Society has grown to comprise a Fellowship of more than 80 internationally recognized experts in cancer imaging and a membership from over 50 countries. \nCancer care is a multidisciplinary endeavor in which Radiology plays an integral role in the diagnosis and management of patients to ensure an optimal outcome. The theme of this 2024 conference\, ‘Illuminating Cancer Care’ will highlight the evolving role of imaging and intervention in modern clinical practice\, in an era of breakthroughs in the understanding of carcinogenesis and major developments in cancer treatment and precision medicine. All this in tandem with unprecedented advances in imaging technology\, theranostics\, interventional techniques and artificial intelligence (AI). DESCRIPTION:Leveraging Multi-Sector Collaboration to Disrupt CNS Metastases \nJointly sponsored by the Society for Neuro-Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology\, the scientific content of this unique event will offer outstanding keynote and plenary addresses on a range of timely topics on the complex and rapidly evolving area of CNS metastases. \nTopics to be addressed include basic and translational research\, as well as a broad range of clinical practice topics including radiation therapy\, surgery\, chemotherapy\, targeted therapy/immunotherapy\, multimodality therapy and clinical trials. In addition to lectures from internationally recognized experts\, conference participants will have opportunities to present their work — and to learn about advances made by others — through short oral presentation and scientific posters selected by the scientific review committee. \nThe theme for this year’s conference is to bring together all the key stakeholders and leverage multi-sector collaborations to disrupt barriers and streamline therapeutic advances for patients with CNS metastases.

SUMMARY:4th Annual Update in Neuro-Oncology
DESCRIPTION:This three-day CME course\, Annual Update in Neuro-Oncology\, is designed to provide an international audience with a comprehensive review of the diagnosis and management of pediatric and adult patients with primary and metastatic CNS and PNS tumors and neurological complications of cancer. Our target audience will be the providers involved in the care of adult and pediatric neuro-oncology patients (oncologists\, radiation oncologists\, neurosurgeons\, neurologists\, neuroradiologists\, and neuropathologists). The course will also be of high relevance to nurse practitioners\, physician assistants\, psychologists\, pharmacists\, and nurses. \nStudents and trainees are eligible for a reduced registration fee by emailing sschwaninger@mgb.org.  The course is accredited for continuing medical education credits.

SUMMARY:Towards CNS Rapid Diagnostics - Information Day
DESCRIPTION:The University of Nottingham and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust will be hosting a training and information event describing their work using rapid sequencing to provide comprehensive molecular diagnosis for CNS tumours. The event is open to clinicians\, administrative and managerial staff as well as academic and research staff interested in the application of sequencing for molecular characterisation of tumours. \nThey will describe the methodology used for developing rapid turnaround sequencing targeting intraoperative diagnosis as well as complete molecular classification within 24 hours of sample receipt. All aspects of the process will be explained\, with input from surgeons\, neuropathologists\, technologists and more. The day will include a demonstration of the process. \nThere will also be opportunities to learn about the equipment being used as well as demonstrations of automation platforms that will be of interest to many (Oxford Nanopore Technologies). \nLunch\, tea and coffee provided.  \nInformation on travelling to Nottingham can be found here. We recommend using public transport where possible. There is a tram service direct from the station to the medical school.

Through national updates and practical case studies the conference will demonstrate how the effective use of nurse prescribing in cancer care can improve patient care\, experience and outcomes. The conference will focus on developing competence and confidence in non medical prescribing in cancer care\, including using the using the National Competency Framework for all Prescribers. Case study sessions will demonstrate how prescribing practice can be improve care for people with cancer and will focus on maintaining and demonstrating prescribing competence\, prescribing for pain management\, chemotherapy prescribing\, Immunotherapy induced side effects and how to manage them\, prescribing for co-morbidity and the importance of holistic assessment\, prescribing for symptom control\, and prescribing in end life care including controlled drugs.
