Professor Geoff Pilkington assumes Presidency of The British Neuro-Oncology Society
At the recent British Neuro-Oncology Society (BNOS) conference Professor Geoff Pilkington assumed the Presidency of the Society, succeeding neurosurgeon Professor Charles Davis who held the post for the previous 2 years.
BNOS brings together those working across all the disciplines involved with neuro-oncology as a way of sharing knowledge, ideas and fostering cross discipline relationships, with the aim of improving care and outcomes for brain tumour patients. The annual conference is a key date in the BNOS calendar and this year it was a landmark event marking the 30th such multi-disciplinary gathering. What was seen as a pioneering structure in 1981 is now an established way of bringing together those working across neuro-oncology disciplines. Its successful format has been replicated throughout Europe and further afield.
Geoff Pilkington, Professor of Cellular & Molecular Neuro-oncology at the University of Portsmouth said: “I have some specific aims for my BNOS Presidency which include encouraging and helping our younger members in their careers; integrating clinical nurse specialists into the Society in a more substantial way and ensuring that paediatric neuro-oncology is a main facet of our strategic planning. The Society welcomes new members from all disciplines involved with neuro-oncology in its broadest sense.”
Outgoing President Charles Davis said, “It has been not only an honour but a great pleasure to have been President of BNOS for two years as we have striven to try and achieve better care for brain tumour patients.”
