Data Protection Act 1998

In order to apply for membership and login to the ‘Members only’ pages of our website, you will be required to submit some personal information, such as your name, position, place of work, address, postcode, telephone number and email address.   BNOS has a legal duty to ensure that we process your personal data in a way that is fair, safe and secure, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.  We will not share your personal information with anybody else without your knowledge, unless we are required by law to do so.

Personal data provided by our members via the BNOS Membership Application/Confirmation Form is stored electronically in our Membership database.  We never share this database with any other parties and we will hold your personal information for as long as it is needed.   The data you provide is used to create email distribution lists that we use to circulate, for example:

a)  information that we feel may be of interest to our membership 
b)  notifications of forthcoming annual meetings and related topics
c)  invitations to participate in a survey relevant to neuro-oncology
d)  general society information
e)  membership status notifications

BNOS enjoys close links with the National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN), the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) and the National Cancer Research Network (NCRN) who on occasions request the name, position, neuro-oncology/neurosurgical centre and email address for their own purposes.  In order to comply with the Data Protection Act and the Information Commissioner’s Office, we wish to seek your consent to pass this information to these organisations.

If you wish to OPT-OUT of a) BNOS holding your personal data electronically on our Membership database; and b) BNOS passing your name, position, centre and email address to organisations such as NCIN, NCRI and NCRN, would you please notify us (email us).

In accordance with the Data Protection Act, members may request details of the data we hold at any time.
